I used to call him my Dad but I think I like the HERO thing better. He's feeling really good today !
Our hero biked 70 miles today - at an average of 18-19 mph - NOT TO SHABBY FOR AN OLD GUY !
Once again, his Achilles only hurts when he is walking - PERFECT ! GET BACK ON YOUR BIKE !
Danielle his youngest grandchild asked "WHY WOULD PAPA BIKE ACROSS THE COUNTRY ?"
I had nothing to say ???? She said "IS HE EVER GOING TO GET HOME AGAIN AND OFF HIS BIKE ?"
I hope so !!!
The group started with 30 and is now down to the lucky 22 ! Some plan on not finishing - who knows what happened to the others ????
Only seven more days of biking ! Tonight is ERIE, PA - I think our hero is excited to be in a place he recognizes !!
Sorry about his luck this is not the stop - even though he grew up in Pennsylvania. On to BOSTON BOB !
I will gladly pick you up DAD if you have had enough - who will know if you really finished !
Our Hero ran out of this "supplement" - with 1400 calories per bar and lots of nutrients yesterday but he got more today and was feeling really strong. (these are supplements they use for dying cancer patients or insane individuals who decide to bike across the country)
Get this - Our Hero -stated he felt so good today he went to the local gym after her biked about 70 miles and swam for an hour and that really made him feel better. (get the straight jacket ready!) - Betty - what are you going to do with him when he gets home !!!
ONLY SEVEN MORE DAYS OF BIKING !!
We used to call him "GOD" and now he's just my "HERO"
LOVE YOU,
LINDA
Well I have to admit I am very impressed. I think Danielle is the most intuitive little kid I know. Questioning why papa would ride his bike across the country, bodes well for her future. It never seems to surprise me when out of the mouth of babes comes sanity.
I have always wondered who would win the title of craziest person in our family? I am happy to say I am not losing sleep over it anymore. Uncle Bob you win hands down. I will send you your trophy in the mail. Do you have an address of the insane asylum where you will be staying? Who goes to the gym after biking all day?
I am about to embark on a whirlwind tour of Europe in July. I am going to France, Montenegro, Switzerland, Holland, Canada and to the US. I am very proud to say the idea of riding my bike from the beginning of the trip until the end never crossed my mind.
Uncle Bob, I think you may have forgotten about an important invention made by two brothers in North Carolina. We call their invention an airplane. You might want to try using one the next time you decide to go coast to coast.
On a serious note -- in 7 days you will have accomplished something I know you have dreamed about for a long time. It takes a lot of guts to do what you have done. Way to go!
Your trip has provided conversation for some rather heated talks with my Danish colleagues (the Danes don't get heated very often). For some reason they have this idea that Americans are crazy. After telling them about your journey, I really don't understand why their opinion of American has not changed.
BTW -- there are more bicycles in Denmark than there are people. Denmark is a country where biking is your main mode of transportation. When you have pulled your bike out of the Atlantic, feel free to ship it over by plane and come and ride throughout Scandanavia.
Love,
Danielle
