Bogle Denies Doping Allegations

Bob Bogle vehemently denied Tuesday that he used any performance- enhancing drugs on his cross country biking trip calling the allegation "ridiculous."

"I'm apoplectic when I read stuff like that," Bogle said.   Bogle has come back from life-threatening surgeries to complete this tour after retiring from his physically strenuous job at AstraZeneca.  However, he maintains that no blood boosting hormones or other drugs were used on the trip.  His doctors confirmed that there is no medical record of any such prescription drug use. 

"I would have recorded such a confession as a matter of form, as indeed, would have my colleagues," Dr. Sweep said.  "None was recorded."

Bogle, who has shifted his career to golf and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, said he would continue to aggressively fight allegations he used performance-enhancing drugs. 

"I have never run from anything," Bogle said.  "If you've got stuff to hide, you wouldn't live as I've lived."

The Boglemobile

It rained today, and the bikers had a very difficult day.  They got lost, they had lots of flat tires, they fell off and hit their heads.  Fortunately, none of these things happened to our hero Bob since he was riding in the van, now known as the Boglemobile.  He had a great day with Rapid Russ and his bride and another turtle.  They had much more fun than the bikers who actually rode bikes.

Bob is rationing his "Boost" which has given him a new lease on biking.  It is 350 calories per bottle, and it has stopped his body from feeding upon itself.  He is saving a couple of bottles for Friday when Betty arrives (Yay!).  Only 3 more days of real biking, then the beach!  Almost there.

Our Hero is as strong as ever !!

I used to call him my Dad but I think I like the HERO thing better.  He's feeling really good today !

Our hero biked 70 miles today - at an average of 18-19 mph - NOT TO SHABBY FOR AN OLD GUY !

Once again, his Achilles only hurts when he is walking - PERFECT ! GET BACK ON YOUR BIKE !

Danielle his youngest grandchild asked "WHY WOULD PAPA BIKE ACROSS THE COUNTRY ?"

I had nothing to say ????   She said "IS HE EVER GOING TO GET HOME AGAIN AND OFF HIS BIKE ?"

I hope so !!!

The group started with 30 and is now down to the lucky 22 !  Some plan on not finishing - who knows what happened to the others ????

Only seven more days of biking !  Tonight is ERIE, PA - I think our hero is excited to be in a place he recognizes !!

Sorry about his luck this is not the stop - even though he grew up in Pennsylvania.  On to BOSTON BOB !

Our Hero ran out of this "supplement" - with 1400 calories per bar and lots of nutrients yesterday but he got more today and was feeling really strong.  (these are supplements they use for dying cancer patients or insane individuals who decide to bike across the country)

Get this - Our Hero -stated he felt so good today he went to the local gym  after her biked about 70 miles and swam for an hour and that really made him feel better.  (get the straight jacket ready!) - Betty - what are you going to do with him when he gets home !!!

ONLY SEVEN MORE DAYS OF BIKING !!

Marysville, Ohio

Bob crossed his 9th state line today, and since it is Father's Day, and he is the greatest father, he rode in the van as a special salute to the day.  Well, part of the way.  The van is very seductive to Bob.  It calls to him with a special toot toot.   

He was flying across Ohio with the wind at his back at 17 mph, but then the winded shifted and slowed him down to 12 mph.  The Sweep told Bob and Rapid Russ, who were fighting to maintain last place, that if there was anything interesting to look at, he would tell them about it.  So much for the staff's wanting the group to enjoy the scenery.  I guess the Sweep had important business at the Holiday Inn Express.  Bob is considered very fast in Naples.

Last night at dinner two of the fanatics were talking about how the body eats on itself if it doesn't get enough nutrients and calories while participating in such strenuous exercise.  This gave Bob something entirely new to obsess about.  He is really afraid to push himself now as he was expecting to have a life after this trip.

Marysville is where Scott's fertilizer and lawn treatments are made.  The sign there says, "where the grass is greener".  Bob thinks the grass will be greener in Boston.  Only 10 more biking days!

Best Day of the Trip.....

Today's weather: Torrential rains, hail and thunderstorms....rain all day long.  But, our hero just laughed and laughed as he passed all the other biking fanatics in the comfort of "The Van".    Bob and 7 other bikers decided not to risk their lives today and did not take on mother nature...it just rained too hard.

A few days ago, they were in Maysville, Missouri where they were greated like conquering hero's.  Apparently, Maysville was the birthplace of the first person to ever bike across the USA. All the bikers rode into town in sets of two....and they were greated by the Mayor, the Police chief and a bunch of old ladies bearing gifts.  Apparently, this is a big event in Maysville every year.(sound like a really cool place to live).

On a more worrisome note....Bob swears a Vulcher has been tracking him for a few days now...circling and circling above him as he rides.  He is not sure why a bird that feeds on "road kill" would be tracking him...one can only imagine!!

FInally, Bob told me he had a great breakfast the other morning.  He sat with his fellow comrades and shared "war stories" about the trip.  I am sure the stories went something like...."Hey Bob, did you really average 12 MPH yesterday?" or "Hey Bob, what kind of gatorade are you packing today" or "Wow, did you see Harry's foot slip off the pedal yesterday....that was exciting" or "Did you see the size of that Pot-Hole yesterday?" or "What gear did you take that last hill...I was in 8th gear...how about you?". or "How many hills did we do up and down yesterday?"(The answer was 148 hills) or "What % grade was that last hill?" (the answer was 13%).  With conversations like this....it makes me want to sign up for this trip next year.  In any case, during all of this stimulating conversation, Bob felt a bit of a draft "down below".  He looked down and realized he only had his Boxer-shorts on...not his biking shorts.  He casually excused himself and ran to his hotel room and got changed.  Funny thing---no one in the group noticed that Bob was wearing boxer shorts...they are all too tired to notice or care.  Tomorrow morning, Bob said he was going to try it again to see if anyone notices.

Help, help, I'm disappearing!

Bob is down 9 pounds today and is afraid he's disappearing.  He'll soon be down to his 12 year old weight.  He has begun eating 150 calorie cookies 3 times a day as well as food supplements, so he's having 500 calorie snacks 3 times a day.  He would like some more ideas on how to keep his weight on.  So, everybody, please send in your suggestions!  Betty, on the other hand, is dieting so that she won't weigh more than Bob when they meet again!

Bob is in Abilene, Kansas, today after biking nine days in a row.  He's so looking forward to his day off tomorrow, sleeping in, and seeing Bob and Hannah.  He visited the Eisenhower home today and was trapped by two very chatty Republican docents (white male, of course), but he managed to break away back to his bike. 

He's traveled over 1500 miles and only has 2000 or so to go!  What a trooper! What a guy!  But you knew that.

FEELING GOOD -JUNE 2

BOUNCING BIONIC BOB BOGLE IS FEELING REALLY GOOD TODAY.

Biking through the flat lands of Kansas has been a real treat for Dad.  "This was the best day yet".  Bionic Bob and his biking buddy Rapid Russ Fetron covered 80 miles today with an average speed of 15.6 MPH !  YOU GO.  Although Dad and Russ were very impressed with themselves - THE BIKING ANIMALS ON THE TRIP WERE NOT.

After each Day, Dad ices his Achilles tendon. It has really started to bother him.  (I guess so)  "It feels OK when I'm biking but it only hurts when I walk" - PERFECT - Your not doing any walking anyway - GET BACK ON YOUR BIKE !!!

Five more day of wheat fields and Kansas.  Next day off is Tuesday.  Here are Dad's evaluations for today:

BTAT - best thing about today - the Incredible speed traveled for 80 miles at 15MPH

WTAT -  worst thing about today - "My butt is getting really sore"  !!!! (sorry about your luck Dad) - GET BACK ON YOUR BIKE !

MOG - measure of grandeur - 5 - the wheat fields are really nice

DOG - degree of difficulty - 6 - with the tire burning speed that was traveled.

Today Dad traveled from Gallup New Mexico to Grants New Mexico.  He traveled up 7295 feet to the "Continental Divide".  (This was the highest part of the tour)  Julia calculated that at this point PAPA has biked a total of 776 miles - (not bad for an old guy and grandpop)

"Not much to  look at" - Measure of Grandeur - MOG - "4" - But maybe that has something to do with the Degree of Difficulty only rated at a "4".  NO PAIN - NO GAIN !

WTAT - Worst thing about today - the WINDS  - they should travel from West-East - that has not happened one day so Far !  The strong winds are in his face every minute - sorry about your luck DAD !  (next time rent a car)

BTAT - Best thing about today - the gentle drive down the hill of the Continental divide to Grant New Mexico.  "My bike is really fast on the downhills - I pass people all the time"  "But my bike is not real good on the uphill - I have to get it checked out when I get home"

Dad says "I think I am losing weight - I eat every minute I get - I have cheeseburgers and fries and a couple candy bars everyday" -  But my clothes seem really loose. CRY ME A RIVER !!!  I would love to eat one Milky Way - without any guilt!

As we spoke Dad says he is laying in bed a bit exhausted.  (I GUESS SO) I told him every time I see his phone number on the caller ID - I expect to hear - I am in the EMERGENCY ROOM in some god forsaken town.  Thank God that has not happened!  The woman who got blown off the bike yesterday - went back to the hospital today ?? (keep you posted)

Tomorrow brings Albuquerque New Mexico to Santa Fe.
